I’ve stopped counting calories.
Maybe not entirely. Not yet. But I’m working on it.
I first started after being advised by my trainer. I began keeping records of what I ate, portion sizes, ingredients — entering each meticulously into an online organizer. I monitored the calories I burned when exercising and entered those too. Soon, I became number obsessed.
On “good” days, I recorded everything. I ate around 1200 calories.
On “bad” days, I only kept a partial record. Once I was off my diet, it was a disaster.
It was all or nothing. Every. Day.
I have new rules, ones that don’t involve numbers. Just a few:
- eat when I’m hungry
- eat what I want when I’m hungry
- when I’m satisfied, stop eating
- eat without distractions or emotions
- forgive myself
Right now, I’m forgiving myself a lot. Old habits are hard to break, but slowly, they’re breaking.
